Building Green

We've all recycled a bottle or two and most of us have purchased items at the store that are made of recycled plastic and glass. These are the first steps to living Green. This is the concept behind our Building Green Program.

Trent Collins, owner of Henlopen Homes, is certified as a Green Advantage® Builder. Henlopen Homes can build a more energy efficient home, while conserving natural resources, and improving your air quality. This can all happen in addition to having a lower impact on your immediate environment.

What is Green Building? Green Building starts with simple things, like the direction your home is situated on your lot in relation to the mid-day sun, prevailing wind patterns, window placement and sun exposure on wooded lots. We can use materials that minimize harm to the environment while being created, and use products that are healthier to you and your environment during their use (like low-no VOC paints and tints). These options provide a more environmentally friendly, energy efficient, healthier home for your family. At some additional upfront cost the following Green options can be added to your home. Many of these options can save you substantial amounts of money over the life of your home.

These options include:

  • Energy Star Appliances
  • Low Flow Shower Heads
  • Low Flow Toilets
  • Fluorescent Lighting
  • Solar or Tankless Hot Water
  • Programmable Thermostats
  • Carrier Puron AC Units
  • Steel Roof
  • Low-No VOC Paint
  • Re-Claimed Flooring
  • Bamboo and Cork Flooring
  • Natural Carpeting
  • Conditioned Crawlspaces
  • Water Barrel Irrigation
  • Grey Water Irrigation
  • Compost Bins
  • Native Landscaping
  • Recycled Glass Countertops
  • Natural Plaster
